This is the Cover Illustration for "GUNNM Last Order" vol. 6.
As always, I cudgeled my brain for my picture.
I drew about ten sketches, but I decided not to use most sketches. In the
end, I used simple composition.
No progress amazed even me.
In the story, characters transferred the action to space, but I had never
drawn color illustration that fit space story.
So, I wanted to draw the background of Earth.
At first, I thought that the ground beneath Gally's feet was Jeru
(TIPHARES), but because of positional relationship of Jeru and Earth, the background
differed to my intention. So I changed the situation.
I drew the glow through cracks on the asteroid for variety's sake.
Her pose which is landing on one hand and is crouching down
is almost the same as the cover illustration of GUNNM Last Order vol. 4.
But general effect of this picture is so different, because she faces front,
looks directly and she has twin blades.
I make the martial impression by her subtle smile.
As I wanted to express the outline of her arms and the texture, I drew her
taking off the jacket for cold weather.
I used to draw creases when I sketched.
But I sketched only the outline and mold this time, drew creases when I colored it.
I decided the color coordinate which the combination of blue, purple and
green from the start.
It is the same as the color scheme of towels on the rack in the rest room of workplace.
I used few warm colors on the reddish area of her skin.
The part of her boots for cold weather is yellow by right, I dared to draw it green this time.
It seems that the glow through cracks is yellow, but it is yellow green in
Although I worked systematically toward, it didn't work that way.
During I started coloring it the two days, I felt anxiety about completion of the picture,
I struggled with the problem from my tactlessness and the lack of experience.
After I wanted to get away from undone, it seemed to be a picture suddenly,
six hours later it was completed quickly.
The easily ending surprised me every time. This point is different from pen drawing as a picture through drawing.
After I colored it with Painter, I blended Damascus pattern layer in multiply mode and screen blended it and new blue light layer upper half of the picture with Photoshop, it was finished.
